Why This Role


This is a hands-on engineering management role for a technical leader who wants to remain close to architecture, systems design, and product development while building and leading a high-performing engineering team.


You’ll work on infrastructure powering a new generation of internet-native financial products, including blockchain-based dollars and systems supporting global payments, commerce, and financial applications.


The role combines technical leadership with people management. You’ll provide architectural direction, influence technology roadmaps, build and develop exceptional engineers, and remain directly involved in the

technical decisions behind secure, scalable products and services.


The strongest fit is a builder-manager: someone who has operated as a Staff Engineer, Technical Lead Manager, startup engineering leader, or similarly hands-on technical leader before or alongside moving into management.


You will:

  • Lead the day-to-day technical and organizational direction of a high-performing engineering team.
  • Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, systems, and user-facing product experiences.
  • Provide hands-on technical and architectural direction across development, integration, testing, deployment, and ongoing platform evolution.
  • Remain close to the code and architecture while helping engineers make critical technical decisions.
  • Partner with Product and other stakeholders to develop technology roadmaps and establish realistic product release plans.
  • Lead engineering execution while introducing and maintaining strong software development practices.
  • Own the full lifecycle of people management, including recruiting, mentoring, coaching, development, retention, and performance management.
  • Manage technical debt while balancing development velocity, reliability, and production stability.
  • Communicate technical opportunities, constraints, and trade-offs clearly across the organization.
  • Coordinate execution across Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to broader technical and engineering initiatives as part of the engineering management organization.

Skills:

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • Meaningful engineering management experience leading and developing software engineers.
  • 3+ years of hands-on development experience with Go, Java, and/or JavaScript.
  • Strong background designing, building, and deploying secure, scalable production products and services.
  • Ability to operate as a hands-on technical manager rather than delegating architecture and technical decisions entirely to individual contributors.
  • Strong systems design and software architecture fundamentals.
  • Meaningful experience building backend, infrastructure, platform, distributed, or transactional systems.
  • Experience owning major technical and architectural decisions from initial design through production.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, services, distributed systems, reliability, scalability, and technical debt.
  • Experience developing technical roadmaps and balancing product requirements with engineering constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, coach, retain, and performance-manage high-performing engineers.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance people leadership, product delivery, and deep technical involvement.

Other Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Staff Engineer, Technical Lead Manager, founding engineer, or highly technical startup engineering leader.
  • Experience transitioning from senior individual contributor responsibilities into engineering management.
  • Experience building products within high-growth, builder-oriented startup environments.
  • Experience with blockchain, crypto, Web3, or digital asset infrastructure.
  • Experience building AI-forward products or engineering organizations.
  • Strong hands-on experience using AI coding and development tools.
  • Experience establishing AI-enabled engineering workflows and helping teams use AI to improve development velocity and quality.
  • A strong point of view on how AI will change software development and the engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience with large-scale transactional systems.
  • Experience with security-sensitive financial or infrastructure products.
  • Experience leading teams while continuing to review architecture and engage deeply in technical design.
